Applying for British Citizenship or Permanent Residence

To apply for British Citizenship or Permanent Residence in the UK you need to:

• Pass an English test

• Pass the Life in the UK test
  

English Language Qualification

You will need a knowledge of English equivalent to level B1 (Intermediate) on the Common European Framework scale.  There are two recognised examinations, namely:

• Trinity GESE Level 5

• IELTS Life Skills Level B1

You only need to do the speaking and listening part of the test, but you should studey the range of subjects which the examiner is likely to test you on.  I can help!

Life in the UK test

For this test you need to know about:

• The values and principles of the UK

• The countries which make up the UK

• The history of the UK

• Life in the UK today

• The UK Government, the law and your role

You can buy a book with all this information from the Government stationery office, but I can help you to understand what you need to learn and how to pass the test.
